THEATRE

The Theater course will focus on acting, writing, stage and lighting design.  

​

In this pathway, students will:

  • Be introduced to theatre appreciation and history through the lens of technical theatre.

  • Learn backstage fundamentals such as design, construction, and execution of technical theatre.

  • Learn safety, theater terminology, tool handling, properties, sound, scenic construction, and lighting to prepare students to participate in high school and collegiate & professional programs.

  • Participate in school plays

  • Learn theater appreciation & history

  • Learn how to write a script and direct a production

WORK-BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  • Audition preparation (acting resume, slating, cold reading, choosing a monologue & song)

  • Vocal & physicality scene work & choreography

  • Auditioning for school productions

  • Character creation with given circumstances and objectives


CAREER READINESS

  • Participation in a school production through acting, tech or scene design

  • Apprenticeships with the Redlands Theatre Festival

  • Internships with local theaters or for local directors.


COLLEGE CONNECTIONS

  • CSUSB College Theatre Fair

  • Visits to local colleges with Theatre programs

 

 

 Year 2: Technical Theatre

WORK-BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  • Operating lighting board, creating lighting plots, inputting lighting cues and mixing colors with light.

  • Sound board operation, mic checks and inputting sound cues

  • Scenic design and construction, measuring to scale for productions

  • Costume and makeup design

  • Poster and program design for productions


CAREER READINESS

  • Participation in a school production through acting, tech or scene design

  • Apprenticeships with the Redlands Theatre Festival

  • Internships with local theaters or for local directors.

  • Use of industry recognized programs, such as ColorLab and Gabo


COLLEGE CONNECTIONS

  • CSUSB College Theatre Fair

  • Visits to local colleges with Theatre programs

 

 

 Year 3: Directing for Theatre  

 

EXPERIENCES

  • Attending theatrical plays

  • Pathway recruitment events

  • Industry guest speakers

  • Field trips to local theaters, including SBVC and the California Theater


WORK-BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  • Creating directing concepts

  • Using vision boards to create concepts

  • Creation of stage manager books for performances

  • Acting as casting director to cast for various roles

  • Directing peers on monologues and scenes in class

  • Developing marketing plans to increase attendance at school performances.


CAREER READINESS

  • Arts, Media & Entertainment event for seniors A Mile in my Shoes 

  • Students work in a school production per year as an actor, tech crew, scene production or designer

  • Work in local theaters or for local directors

  • Participation in the Redlands Theatre Festival as apprentices

  • NFHS Theatre Safety Certifications


COLLEGE CONNECTIONS

  • Dual Enrollment with SBVC THEATER-100

  • CSUSB Theatre College Fair

  • Acting as apprentices at local college productions
